Spring has Sprung!

Just like the bulbs planted that are springing forth with new life after the dark winter, now is the time for us to do the same! A fresh start. New beginnings. It is an exciting time. One filled with anticipation. Like waiting for a baby to arrive! Spring teases us like that!

Spring is associated with the wood element in chinese medicine. It is usually set around the spring equinox which is March 21 in the Northern Hemisphere. Just like waiting for that baby it doesn’t always arrive on its due date.

Like the buds on the trees pushing through its boundaries to show its beauty, now is the time for us to do the same. I don’t know about you but I have HIBERNATED this winter. Learning to listen to what my body and spirit needs. Now is the time to bloom! Face everything and avoid nothing! We have been gathering our strength by resting, feeding the body, planting the seeds that will now take off!

When your body, spirit, and mind are balanced you feel compassionate, patient, accepting, benevolent, and honest with yourself and others. Out of balance you may feel angry, frustrated, resentful, irritable, and belligerent. Those “l l” lines in between your brow? Yep! Those lines are marking for these emotions.

As within, so without. As above, so below.

Now is the time to get out! Break free! Start that new business, climb that mountain, start a new skin care routine, walk then run! It is now time to emerge from our cave! Shake off the dust and get moving. This is how nature works and we are a part of that. We have become more and more disconnected from nature and its rhythms and cycles. To balance your mind, body and spirit and your skin, by the way, working with nature’s cycles keeps you functioning optimally.

The color green is associated with the wood element and man after all the rain we have had look around at the beautiful green grass we have already! It looks like Ireland! You want to be eating green things everyday. Broccoli, Asparagus, Kale, Parsley, Chard. Also lightly steamed.

Avoid heavy or processed foods that require the liver to work harder! Add a little spring onion, garlic, ginger, and fennel into your diet as well to help boost your immune system.

Adding pickles into your diet sporadically in the spring helps as well. Or drink lemon water.

If ya’ll are feeling anger or have restless sleep introducing lettuce, quinoa, citrus peel and dandelion helps with this.

Of course foods that are in season, local, and organic are best. Been wanting to start a garden (hint, hint) now is the time to begin! Get outside! Walk, run, hike. Just move a little every day.

And rest. In the middle of the day. I know, I know. There aren’t enough hours in the day. I have to run errands at lunch, etc. I GET IT! I don’t even schedule a lunch break. I didn’t, until now. I told you on my Facebook Live that my face is warning me. I have worked to hard for to long. Taken care of to many people and neglected myself. So now yes; I am taking a lunch. I will eat green things an lay down and close my eyes ( not scroll Facebook) for fifteen minutes every day.

What does this have to do with skin? EVERYTHING! When we learn the language our body speaks it tells us what we need. So today my “l l” have gotten deeper and I know why and exactly who I am angry, frustrated, and irritated with. So I asked myself how can I feel better about this? And promptly went to Facebook and deleted and unfollowed things. If I don’t know I can’t be angry about it. Ignorance is Bliss! Yeah, yeah I know. I should be informed blah, blah, blah. If it is important to me, I will find out. And guess what? Those lines are almost gone. It made my spirit smile to delete a few things!

And then it reflected to above! I dare you to try it!
